What level of editing do you need?

Editing takes place once the overall structure of the material has been set out in accordance with your goals. You have reread the material several times and made all of your revisions. You might even have asked a colleague, friend, or relative for feedback and suggestions.

You are now ready to contact me. A quick review of your work, followed by a brief discussion, will determine the level of editing that best suits your needs.

Levels of edits and services

Stylistic editing

A stylistic edit takes place once you have all of your text written and it is organized to your liking. The piece will be looked at as a whole to ensure that there is an overall coherence and flow, and that all meanings are clear. This edit takes in the big picture before you get into a more detailed edit.

Copy editing

Copy editing is sometimes referred to as a line edit. Each sentence is carefully reviewed, and changes are suggested for correctness, accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Language refinements are made at this stage. This process happens before the material is laid out in its final format.

Proofreading

Proofreading happens once the copy is in its final format. The text and the visual elements of the material are corrected for errors. No new material should be introduced at this stage.

Personalized style sheets

I can also help you develop a style sheet that will outline correct grammar and punctuation, and list spelling and stylistic choices that you can use for consistency in your manuscript or as a guide for future writing projects. Having this document will make your writing easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
