About me
My expertise in writing and editing will help your project stand out.
I have loved words all my life. I read a lot when I was young, and I still read books (yes, real books) almost every day. While I enjoy a well-written novel, I also gravitate towards non-fiction, especially biographies, memoirs, and books about the English language. At university, I studied English literature and psychology, then returned to school at thirty to take another undergraduate degree, this time in art history.
In my early twenties, I worked in England and then backpacked through Europe and South East Asia. This love of travel led me to a job in educational travel for students. Next, I moved to the National Ballet of Canada, where I worked in fundraising before working as the assistant to James Kudelka, the artist director. Both of these positions involved writing and proofreading.
When my two children were young, I became involved with Art Gems, an art auction that raises funds for Creative Works Studio, a wonderful arts-based mental health rehabilitation program. I started as a volunteer, and, four years later, I was the director, leading an incredible committee of volunteers. During that time, I wrote all of the materials, including fundraising letters, website content, and reports. Once I stepped back from the director’s role, I was still asked to write important messages and edit all the written materials.
This was when I realized I had a talent for this kind of thing, so I enrolled in George Brown College’s editing program to further hone my skills. Three years and eight courses later, I had the certificate in hand. I have now embarked on a freelance editing business so I can bring my writing and editing expertise to you.
I started by working with a few businesses and organizations on their communications. Then, a few manuscripts for non-fictions books came my way, and I found I really loved working on these projects. You can read some of the testimonials from the authors in the “Reviews” section. In 2023, I was hired by FriesenPress as a freelance editor to work with their clients, all of whom are self-publishing books with this printing house. To see my resumé , click here: ginnyleutyresumé.
